Overview
Research Culture describes the manner in which we conduct our research. Good practices and behaviours are core to the success and effectiveness of our science.
It's easy to assume that the scientific method alone can deliver great science. But the way we conduct our science is as equally important. Understanding how our biases and perceptions have a huge influence on our research, dictating who and how the benefits of science are shared.
At the same time, how we act in our professional practice, and the policies we choose to implement or maintain, impact those around us. This ultimately influences who become and who remain scientists, and by virtue which research topics are studied.
Role of Research Culture within the Team
As a Team, we have intentionally placed a focus on research culture at the heart of what we do. This is to enable us to build, change and grow while at the same time considering the broader impacts of our choices.
In practice, this means:

defining, sharing and developing these ideals and principles as the team grows,

learning from others, both from experts, and annecdotally from the experience of us and others,

testing and incorporating techniques that help both our team, colleagues and others, as well as the quality of our science.
Even more practically, these values and approaches are driving the development of our Lab Handbook, which defines standard procedures and processes within the team.
